SPEED TRIPLE 1200 RR: YOUR QUESTIONS, OUR ANSWERS

POSTED: 16/06/2022

Real rider questions answered directly by Triumph - everything you wanted to know about the Speed Triple 1200 RR.

WHAT INSPIRED THE DESIGN OF THE RR?

The essence of the design intent was all about elegance, beauty and adding sports aerodynamics and performance.

WERE ANY MODERN CLASSIC BIKES USED SPECIFICALLY AS INSPIRATION FOR THIS MODEL?

No, the design is unique and is fully focused on a modern performance sports bike with its own distinctive style.

HOW DID THE EXPERIENCE IN MOTO2 HELP THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS BIKE?

Our engine design team are responsible for both our racing and road engines. All learnings from our race programmes, including power, performance and durability, are incorporated into our new product development.

WHAT ARE THE MAJOR CHANGES FROM THE RS TO THE RR APART FROM THE FAIRING?

The ergonomic set up is more focused for sports riding with lower, clip-on handlebars and higher, rear set foot pegs which give a more engaged riding position.

Additionally, the suspension is much more advanced with Öhlins smart EC 2.0 semi-active suspension system which adds a more sophisticated level of functionality and is easily tailored to suit rider preferences.

WHAT IS THE BEST FEATURE ON THE SPEED TRIPLE 1200 RR?

That really depends on what you’re looking for. There are several new aspects which we think riders should find exciting.

- The highest performance Speed Triple engine ever
- The agile and dynamic handling being closer to a Street Triple performance than the previous generation
- The highest specification of brakes and suspension
- The most responsive and fastest accelerating Speed Triple ever

HOW MANY RIDING MODES ARE THERE?

There are 5 riding modes including:
- Rain
- Road
- Sport
- Track
- Rider configurable

All of which feature a tailored combination of throttle map, braking set up, ABS tune, traction control setting, and suspension set up.

WITH A MORE LEANT OVER RIDING POSITION, HOW DOES THE RR HANDLE VS THE RS?

For fast sports riding the ergonomics are far more engaged, focused and set up to give you a more dynamic ride.

HOW DO THE ERGONOMICS SUIT EVERYDAY RIDING? IS IT MORE ROAD OR TRACK FOCUSED?

The ergonomics whilst more focused are not extreme and have been tuned to give you a more dynamic ride. As with all Speed Triples which have always designed to be a road focused sports bike, the RR has been tuned to be even better on the road and highly capable on the track.

IS POWER AND GEARING THE SAME AS THE RS?

Yes, but the cockpit and riding position deliver enhanced aerodynamics and acceleration.

WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO GET MY HANDS ON ONE?
